Gucci's Love Parade show revived the cinematic style with the first appearance of marabou-trimmed robes, ten-gallon hats, and celebrity appearances by Macaulay Culkin, Phoebe Bridgers, Jared Leto and others. Presented with equal flair on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, the collection arrived weeks after the other designers' presentations - leaving its mark accordingly with exaggerated styles and accessories.

Modeled by Gucci's first plus-size model to walk the runway, feathered robes and silk suspenders struck a balance between old Hollywood glamour and bedroom style; latex tops, over-the-knee leather gloves and thigh-high tights leaned toward the latter. However, it was the smallest part of Gucci's presentation that made the biggest impression. According to the designer label, sex toys can be hot jewelry.

Making a statement - while the appearance exposed potential lingerie and leather nipple patches, the models clutched what looked like rosary beads in their fists - a closer look revealed that the silver accessories were actually anal bead chains. The anal plug necklaces and vaginal pendants make the kinky theme even more obvious, although it's not clear who these pieces were designed for (other than BDSM enthusiasts and perhaps Rihanna). It's also worth asking whether Gucci's sexy products are actually, well, functional - perhaps that will help justify their huge, as-yet-undisclosed price tags.

Creative director Alessandro Michele has always been a challenger; Gucci's recent Aria collection included leather harnesses-a play on the brand's equestrian origins-as well as leather whips and copies of Sigmund Freud's Three Contributions to the Theory of Sexuality. However, extravagant hip plugs may be too much for Gucci's affluent clientele, and it's unlikely that these pieces will appear in store windows. Perhaps like real, useful sex toys, these jewels will be made to order - to ensure a perfect fit.

Are Jewelry Sex Toys on the Rise? - In the wake of the pandemic (whenever that was), many speculated that the Roaring Twenties would return; months of isolation and social life restrictions gave way to frivolity and decadence. The Associated Press wrote that "norms of sexuality would loosen," while the Guardian predicted a "sexual explosion. Gucci is simply keeping up with what people want, even if those wants are usually reserved for private spaces.

While the idea of sex toy jewelry going mainstream may seem far-fetched, we're entering a new era of kinky freedom - jewelry brands like Crave and Bijoux Indiscrets are already selling vibrators disguised as necklaces; butt plug necklaces may fall flat in a few years. Just make sure to style accordingly and build a safe word.
